Who was your favorite teacher? Why?
My all time favorite teacher was a college professor named Don. Being an older college student had its share of challenges. I was married and had two children with one on the way when I met this incredible professor. I hated math and had waited until my last two semesters to try and tackle this subject I dreaded. Don was the FIRST teacher who ever led me to a complete understanding of math AND did not make me feel inadequate in doing so. His sense of humor was infectious and put me at ease. He used laughter, motivation, and knowledge to teach in a way like no other I had ever known. Don was an incredible educator and without him, I would not be teaching today.
What are three things every teacher should own?
1.) A favorite book
2.) Classical music
3.) Glasses to see what others don't.
If you could have any person (living, dead or fictional) as a principal, who would it be?
Jesus because He adored children.
What profession other than your own would you most like to attempt?
That is a difficult question. I have never wanted to do anything other than be a teacher. Now that I am the Library Media Specialist I am able to see ALL the students each week which makes this job even grander. The only other profession I could imagine would be one that involved teaching on the college level.
Describe your all-time favorite lesson/unit activity.
Meteorologist/Journalist for the Day: This entailed two children per day. Each student was able to be the Journalist/Meteorologist or the Videographer. They used a script to record announcements and weather daily while being filmed by another student. Each student was then able to convert the video to a wav/flv file, upload it to the computer, and then view it on our class web page. Even the most timid students LOVED this activity and looked forward to their "day!" This covered so many GLE's and life skills each day!
What is the greatest misconception about teachers?
The greatest misconception is that teachers do this job for the hours, vacation time, or anything that takes us away from the school/job.
What stereotype about teachers is true?
We love children more than anything!
How did you know you wanted to be a teacher?
I wanted to be a teacher for as long as I can remember.
