Who was your favorite teacher? Why?

My favorite teacher was Mr. McNulty, my 4th grade teacher. He knew how to make learning fun and he had a great sense of humor. He knew how to reach most of his studetns and lots of his lessons were hands on. I can remember him reading to us by flashlight and how cool I thought that was.

What are three things every teacher should own?

Three things ever teacher should own are

1. Colorful Pens

2. Mechanical pencils

3. notebook paper

If you could have any person (living, dead or fictional) as a principal, who would it be?

If I could choose any person to be principal, I'd choose Dr. Seuss or Charles Schultz. They were two amazing men have created a love of reading around the world through books and cartoons, some of which portrayed "life".

What profession other than your own would you most like to attempt?

I would love to try my hands as a Labor and Delivery nurse.

Describe your all-time favorite lesson/unit activity:

My all time favorite lessons and unit activities involve reading novels and then discussing them. A 12-year-olds perspective on a story can truly be enlightening.

What is the greatest misconception about teachers?

The greatest misconception is that teachers do not have lives outside of school. We DO have lives!

We don't just spend time grading papers and lesson planning, we also attend soccer games, shop, and like to watch movies.

What stereotype about teachers is true?

All teachers have a certain "mother look" that they can give to let a student/child know that the way they are behaving is inappropriate. Try for yourself next time you go to the grocery store and the child next to you decides to act up.

How did you know you wanted to be a teacher?

I honestly didn't know. After I graduated from college, I became a sub to make money. I subbed mostly middle school and for high school. I found that I really connected with the middle school kiddos. They were old enough to hold a conversation but yet still young enough to listen to what I had to say. I really enjoyed subbing.

It dawned on me that if I became certified, I could become THE teacher instead of THE substitute. Eight years later..here I am, a middle school teacher.
