K-2 : Sporting Words
In 5 minutes, write down as many sports-related words as you can think of. Once your list is complete, identify whether each word is a noun, verb or adjective. Choose one noun, verb and adjective and write a sentence using all three.
3-5: Hall of Fame Speech
Congratulations! You’re being inducted into the Hall of Fame. Identify the sport/activity/skill for which you’d love to be in the Hall of Fame. Then, write a one-paragraph speech that you would give at your Hall of Fame celebration. Be creative with your accomplishments and those you’ll thank!
6-8: Overcoming Discrimination
Sports have a way of unifying people who might otherwise discriminate against or pre-judge one another. Think of a time when you felt like someone judged you without really knowing you or you judged someone else without knowing them.
Describe that experience, either how being pre-judged made you feel or how your view changed once you got to know that person.
9-12: The Path of Non-violence
Jackie Robinson endured hurtful treatment without retaliating to earn his place in baseball history and later on in his efforts with the Civil Rights Movement. Write a short essay about the power of non-violent protest. Support your argument with successful examples of peaceful protest in history or in everyday life.
