Soldiers have to overcome their fears everyday. They are very brave. Do you remember a time when you had to do something that made you nervous or scared? What happened? Draw a picture or write a sentence describing a time you were brave.

 

9-12: Choosing to Serve

Unlike many previous eras in American history, military service is a citizen's choice rather than an obligation. There is no draft calling upon citizens to go to war whether they want to or not. Why do people volunteer for this dangerous job that takes them far from home? Explain at least three reasons that enlistees choose a soldier's life.
