3-5: Horse Herds & Human Communities

Horses are creatures that live in herds, or groups, for protection. People also form "herds" or communities. What different communities are you a part of?

To get started, think about all the people in your life and how they relate to one another. Identify at least three of your different communities. Then, describe how each of them helps make your life better.

6-8: Work Horses

Horses have helped humans to farm, to travel and even to fight in wars. In fact, horses have had many jobs throughout their history with humans.

Name three of those jobs. For each job, describe why horses are well suited to that task. Consider the different kinds of horses and how they're built differently, as demonstrated in the video.

9-12: History Without Horses

According to the video, horses nearly died out eight thousand years ago. Imagine how different American history would have been without horses.

Pick a moment in history in which horses played a vital role in people's everyday lives. Describe how things would have been different if there were no horses to help people work and travel.
