RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — State education leaders are set to visit a summer science institute at Virginia Commonwealth University.
Secretary of Education Laura Fornash will be joined by some state lawmakers at the VCU School of Education on Thursday.
More than 40 elementary school teachers are learning how to improve science instruction at the four-week institute.
The program includes a two-week camp that allows teachers to practice techniques on high-needs students Henrico County and Richmond schools before using the instruction in their classrooms this fall.
The program is part of the Virginia Initiative for Science Teaching and Achievement. Nearly 130 teachers are participating in such programs this summer across the state.
