K-2: Animal Accessories

Puss in Boots is different from other cats because he is wearing shoes. It is your turn to accessorize another animal.

  1. 1. Write down the name of an animal.
  2. 2. Write “in” next to the animal’s name.
  3. 3. Write down an article of clothing or an accessory (hat, jewelry, etc.).
  4. 4. Draw a picture of the animal WEARING your selected accessory.
  5. 5. Share your newly accessorized animal with the rest of the class.

3-5: Creating Catchphrases

Puss in Boots’ catchphrase is “Holy Frijoles” which means “Holy Beans.” A catchphrase is an exclamation or comment that a character becomes known for saying. It is often attention-grabbing or humorous.

Create your own catchphrase. It should be a short phrase or sentence that you could use in response to different scenarios. It should also fit your personality.

 

6-8: The Fun of Personification

Much of the humor in Puss in Boots is a result of personification. This cat is behaving like a human hero, but he is still a cat. Most of the jokes in the trailer address this.

 

Why do you think it is funnier to have a cat hero than a human hero? Use examples from the trailer of “cat humor” to support your answer.

 

9-12: Chasing Legendary Treasure

The adventure in the movie is created by the characters chasing treasure based on a legend. You will need to unleash your creativity to come up with your own legend for this creative writing activity.

 

First, brainstorm a treasure for your hero to seek, a location where it can be found and obstacles that will stand in the way of your hero finding the treasure.

 

Once you've decided on these plot essentials, compose your legend in the form of a letter to the hero. Describe the details and ask for his/her help in finding the treasure.
