3-5: The Benefits of Youth

The quest in the latest Pirates of the Caribbean movie is to find the Fountain of Youth. Everyone wants to find a way to be young again.

What’s so great about being young? Why do you think being a kid is better than begin an adult? Describe at least three things you can do that grownups just can’t.

6-8: Sea Legends

This movie is filled with legends, from mermaids to zombies to Blackbeard and most importantly to the Fountain of Youth. These legends are based on people’s hopes and fears.

Imagine that you are a sailor. Name something you would either fear or desire. Then, create a legend with some kind of magical or other-worldly element to it. Tell the story of your legend in one to two paragraphs.

If you’re having trouble coming up with ideas, remember your setting. You are at sea with the whole underwater world as inspiration. Also, you can consider other ships or people/creatures/supernatural objects you’ll find on your journeys, either at sea or on distant shores.

9-12: Pirate Characters

Johnny Depp creates a very unique pirate in his character Captain Jack Sparrow. Imagine that you are a screenwriter for the next Pirates of the Caribbean movie.

Create your own pirate character to play along side Captain Jack. Give him or her a name and list at least five character traits that set this pirate apart. Who would you get to play your pirate in the film?
