One Year Later: Remembering the Sandy Hook Victims

One year ago, a gunman opened fire at Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown, Conn., taking the lives of six educators and 20 students. 

Our hearts, thoughts and prayers go out to all the families that lost loved ones in that horrible tragedy.

In Washington DC last year, President Obama bestowed the family members of the fallen educators with one of the nation’s highest honors - the Presidential Citizens Medal.

"They could have focused on their own safety, on their own well-being. But they didn't," Obama said. "They gave their lives to protect the precious children in their care.”
 
To this credit, let’s once again reflect not in sadness, but in optimism and pride to honor the immense sacrifice of these six educators for their bravery, heroism and relentless pursuit to give their all to their students.

To those looking to honor the lives of those that died in that senseless event, here are some organizations that promote peace and safety as well as a video tribute put together by students from Newark Arts High School:
