Teaching Motto: Engaged learners learn for life.  So let's light fires for our learners that will spark a life time of learning.

What are three things every teacher should own?

1. A computer or laptop with internet access. Why reinvent the wheel?

2. A sensible pair of shoes, so you can think on your feet.

3. A sense of humor, it will carry you very far in your career.

What profession other than your own would you most like to attempt?

I would love to teach tech integration at the collegiate level, but I don't plan on leaving this job ever! It rocks!

Describe your all-time favorite lesson/unit activity.

I love working with my third graders to study biographies.  We had them select a historically significant U.S. person and read a biography about them, take notes using a graphic organizer, and then prepare a PowerPoint and a photo story to teach others about their famous person.  The students were very engaged, learned a lot, and got to share their lessons with the Superintendent, Tech Director, Principals, and our Language Arts Coordinator.  I was so proud of all their work.

What is the greatest misconception about teachers?

That we live for summers. They are nice, but I could teach on a year-round schedule in a blink of an eye!

What stereotype about teachers is true?

We all drag our bags home every night, and sometimes they just sit there in the corner with the best of intentions dismissed by a good movie, family time, or just sheer tiredness.

How did you know you wanted to be a teacher?

I always liked working with children.  I didn't figure it out until a bit later, but I always knew it was going to be something to do with children.  I decided in high school that if I taught I would have the best of both worlds.  I could work with children and impact the future.
