Teaching Motto: You might be the only good thing that happens to them all day! Love them, even when it is difficult!

Who was your favorite teacher? Why?

Mr.Usdin, he was my 6th grade teacher a long, long, long time ago. I don't know why, there was really nothing special about him. But he is the one I remember, so I take that back, there had to be something special about him.

What are three things every teacher should own?

1. The patience of Job.
2. The voice of The Rock.
3. The compassion of St.Theresa.

(I read this somewhere, but it is so appropriate!)

If you could have any person (living, dead or fictional) as a principal, who would it be?

I would love to have my former principal back. He wasn't perfect, but he got me. He understood that I wasn't all about AR, and test prep, but that my kids still left my classroom with lots of knowledge. (And passed those darn standardized tests!)

What profession other than your own would you most like to attempt?

I would love to be a writer. Well, I have a blog, "Diary of a Public School Teacher," so I guess I'm already a writer. So, let me rephrase that, I would like to be a paid writer.

Describe your all-time favorite lesson/unit activity.

My all-time favorite activity is giving my students a real world math problem and letting them loose. They work collaboratively to solve the problem while I walk around with a camcorder. It's amazing, and they love watching the video afterward.

What is the greatest misconception about teachers?

That we are slackers who just teach so that we can have a day that ends at 3:00PM and the summer off! Nothing could be further from the truth!

What stereotype about teachers is true?

Hmmmm...Teachers love to talk. Have you ever tried to conduct a workshop with a bunch of teachers? Very, very, difficult :-)

How did you know you wanted to be a teacher?

When I was a little girl, I used to go in my friend's basement.  We would set up an easel with chart paper and teach the neighbors!  As I grew up, everything I did was geared toward becoming a teacher.
