Who was your favorite teacher? Why?

My favorite teacher was Mrs. Keller.  I had her from 2nd to 5th grade for a program called Explorations.  We met an hour a day and she was just very creative and off the beaten path.  We wrote, researched, and put on plays for the rest of the school.  I still am in contact with her.

What are three things every teacher should own?

Instead of own, I think every (special ed) teacher should KNOW:
1.)  Data and paperwork will take up a large part of your time- both in and out of school
2.)  Managing the adults in your room may prove to be more difficult than managing the students
3.)  You must set work curfews for yourself (i.e. I am leaving today at 5:30 no matter what)- if you forget to take care of yourself it will just speed up the burnout rate

If you could have any person (living, dead or fictional) as a principal, who would it be?

Hillary Clinton

What profession other than your own would you most like to attempt?

Before education I was set to go to law school.  I also would like to try out occupational therapy.

Describe your all-time favorite lesson/unit activity.

Thus far I really enjoyed a week long hip-hop lesson from a music unit.  I had a lot of fun creating and implementing it.  It reached students of all abilities.

What is the greatest misconception about teachers?

Not sure...maybe that we do in fact have full functioning lives outside of school walls- despite what students (or parents) may believe.

What stereotype about teachers is true?

That we have all the answers..... kidding!  Not very familiar with teacher stereotypes, they have all been so different through the course of my life.

How did you know you wanted to be a teacher?

I knew I wanted to be involved with students when I was in high school.  I worked with a local organization that helped coach high school kids with disabilities and after undergrad I finally realized it was the only thing in my professional life that I truly enjoyed.
