This Week in Rap

Rap music... you get jiggy with it, right?

Maybe not, but many of your students know and love it. Here is a way to use their music to engage them with weekly news and current events.

Browse out to theweekinrap.com. Choose the topic of the week and see that latest slideshow with the weekly news in rap.

The Week in Rap - Obama Inauguration from Week in Rap on Vimeo.

If you scroll down the page, you will find the lyrics to the rap. All the BOLD words are hyperlinks to the article that are the original news source. All the major news crews represent, including CNN, the Washington Post and more.

When you click on "We're landing plans on the Hudson, baby," you're brought to this New York Times article.

What better way to engage and motivate your students than to have a group listen, read and discuss before they report out to the class! You could even have them create their own rap.

Check out their original site which encourages students to learn facts through rap!
