YouTube Writing Prompt: Symbolism in Action

I'm continually struggling to get my students to grasp the concept of symbolism. This Blackberry commercial literally shows it... with a little pizazz.

This BlackBerry phone ad is an excellent example of symbolism. A symbol is an material object that represents something else (especially an idea or concept that you can't touch).

What product does the blackberry represent?

What product does the apple represent?

What is the message the commercial producers are trying to send the viewer?

How does this demonstrate symbolism?

I'm always looking for tips on how to better express this concept to students. It's online, so that limits the options a bit. If you have any suggestions, please share in the comments section!
